The Origin

Clear The Shelters campaign was originally founded by a North Texas adoption event in 2014. The event was hosted by Telemundo/KXTX and NBC5/KXAS along with several local Texas animal shelters. The event was very successful and resulted in over 1,000 pets adopted in one day! NBC Universal took the campaign national the following year and it has now become an annual event across the nation.

The Importance Of The Campaign

This is an exceptionally important campaign because it gives shelter animals a chance at finding their forever home. Clear The Shelters Campaign is not only for a great cause, but it is outstandingly effective. Compared to several other pet-themed holidays that center around shelter animal adoption, this campaign has shown much more positive results regarding adoption.

Thousands of pet loving people from all across the country are participating in this campaign by exchanging information, resources, contacts, and even shelter animals. Every year this campaign continues to grow, become more popular, and find more forever homes for shelter animals across the U.S. We believe that’s something worth celebrating.

The Sad Truth

This campaign is essential to shelter animals everywhere because it gives them a better chance of being adopted.  According to the A.S.P.C.A. (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals), 6.3 million companion animals enter U.S. animal shelters every year. 3.1 million of which are dogs and 3.2 million are cats.

Out of those 6.3 million shelter animals, 920,000 of them will be euthanized (390,000 dogs and 530,000 cats). The sad truth is that most animal shelters can’t keep these animals forever due to a lack of space, resources, and staff. Essentially, the odds are stacked against most shelter animals. There are simply too many shelter animals and not enough people willing to adopt them. Clear The Shelters Campaign helps tip the odds in their favor.

How You Can Help

We encourage you to participate in the amazing campaign that helps shelter animals find a forever home. A great way to get involved in the Clear The Shelters Campaign is to donate to or volunteer at your local animal shelter. Most animal shelters are always in need of volunteers or additional supplies.
